The Neal Home

During the camp you can check here for updates on what's going on at the Neal home.

Monday July 18, 2011

The adults on the Neal team are Cody Shores (Site Leader), Beth Carlton, Vance Lowe, Mona Kita and Erin Mode. The youth are Lucas Clark, Collin Blackburn, Paul Miller, Sam Sykes, Madison Anderson, Erin Dabbs, Hollyann Walker, Claire Alexander, Lauren Surretsky and Ethan Beck.

The major projects at the Neal home are the roof, the two decks, the bathroom and the floor in front of the fireplace. There are also a number of different minor projects.

On Monday, the team quickly began the necessary demolition work. By 8:15am both of the decks and the wheelchair ramp had been torn down and one side of the roof was almost cleared of shingles. Half the dumpster was filled.

Inside the house the floor in the kitchen, bathroom and dining room were torn up. The bathroom vanity was gone.

By the end of the day half the roof had been re-shingled and one of the decks was just about framed. Inside, the team had cleans up the subfloors. The bathroom floor was completely removed revealing the crawlspace.

There was a lot of progress made this first day.

Neal Team is Rocking

The title could apply to the music that's being played but it could also appropriately describe the progress that's being made.

At the end of the day about 80% of the roofing was done. It looks like it will be completed on Wednesday by noon which means there will be more folks left to work at ground level. The roof looks really good.

The structure for the two decks is complete and all the decking is laid down. What's left are one set of stairs (one is complete) and the railings. They will be finished easily.

The floor in the bathroom is coming along. It's filled in and solid. It will need to prepared for the flooring but it is in good shape.

The kitchen cabinets have been mostly repaired and the kitchen is being painted before the floor can go in.

The last big project that needs to be started is leveling the floor in front of the fireplace. With the help available it shouldn't be a problem.

We'll just need to keep everyone healthy for the remainder of the week.

The Major Projects are Complete

The team continued the pace they had established during the first two days of the week. The roof was completed except for the flashing around the chimney and the ridge vents. Both decks were complete.

By midday the focus shifted to the interior of the house where flooring would laid down in the kitchen, bathroom, hallway and den.

The outlook for the rest of the week looks good.

Thursday July 21, 2011

The Neal team continued to work as they had the three previous days. The flashing on the roof was done. A few new outdoor projects were started with the team painting the outside trim. The curb appeal of the home was improved significantly.

The painting continued on the inside with the bathroom and kitchen suddenly seeming very bright.

Friday will be spent laying down flooring, completing the painting and cleanup. They are still on track.
